The protected breeding ground of Loggerhead turtles (Catetta carettasn) in Alagadi beach has turned into a rubbish tip during the winter since the turtles are in danger of extinction, they the beach is one of they are protected at Alagadi beach, on the eastern coast of Girne.
The beach is one of the major breeding grounds of Caretta Carettas in Cyprus, but unfortunately has become full of rubbish again. There have been calls for the breeding grounds of the turtles to be kept clean not only during summer when they come ashore to next, but in the winter months as well . It is thought that Caretta Carettas have been on earth for 106 million years and are rapidly dying out because of the changes to their environment by human beings.
