Trip , the pioneering Troodos Region Innovation Project aiming to promote theme tourism by highlighting the authenticity of Troodos Mountains, will be officially launched in Platres on January 14.
Initiated by Platres community leader Panayiotis Papadopoulos , it covers 75 communities in the region and evolved through the Troodos Network- a non profit company set up by young to work for the sustainable development of their area.
“The aim of the trip project is to make the most of cultural resources ‘n the Troodos area as well as to promote the traditional products of the region and its natural environment in order to attract tourists and create jobs in the area,” Papadopoulos told.
“the project started in 1999 with the involvement of young people in rural areas, who were no longer members of their region’s youth centres, but were determined to upgrade their villages and birthplaces. They did not stop searching for ways to create better conditions for the entire Troodos area and ensure the region’s sustainable development” he added.
A crowning point of their efforts comes on January 14 with the presentation of the Trip project and inauguration of the trip project and inauguration of the Platres Eco-tourism support and Development Regional Centre.
“The thematic centres will be fully presented on January 14 and will gradually start operations one at a time , every one or two months, starting from February, March. We chose to introduce one thematic centre at a time for marketing purposes,” he said.
The whole project will be completed in two years with additional theme centres added to it, in the meantime.
Research carried cut by the Troodos Network showed that sustainable development in Troodos should focus on tourism, agriculture and traditional products which should all work as tools to attract tourism to the Troodos areas.
