Ayia Napa optimistic on summer prospects-cyprus

Tourism prospects for Ayia Napa and Protaras are good for the summer, Ayia Napa Mayor Antonis Tsokkos said yesterday . but he  said there were problems with the German market as a result of insufficient plane seats of Cyprus.

“there is an extra demand of some 15% from Germany , but it not certain  whether 5-10% will come here since there will be no plane seats to carry tourists to Cyprus,”   he said.

Messages from Russia are very positive  for the two resorts for the summer, but there are ongoing problems facing the free Famagusta district, such as the chronic issue of seasonality, continue.

“A region, like free Famagusta cannot be busy between May and the end of October and be closed for the rest of the year,” Tsokkos said.

The Mayor said that tourism throughout Cyprus should be helped but the free Famagusta region needed the most assistance.

With regards to the issue of the withdrawal of substandards beds. Tsokkos said that applications can be submitted to the authorities as of April-June . The aim is to withdraw 20,000 beds islandwide, he said.

Tsokkos said that incentives to upgrade tourism premises should be given to hotels and tourism premises in the centre of Ayia Napa and not only to beach hotel.

“The aim is to have life and tourists staying in the centre of Ayia Napa,” he said.
