Dromea Racing Club one of the largest running clubs in Cyprus, recently organised an 8 kilomtre time trial run at the beautiful surroundings of Athalassa Park.
The race, sponsored by Becel Pro.Activ, was an opportunity for runners of all levels to test their strengths is excellent running conditions and surrounded by natural beauty, safe from car traffic and air pollution.
Since the run was not a race but a time trial , no prizes were given.
The runners, however, were united in their approval of the time trial, many of whom mentioned that taking part in such runs is exactly what they want during this time of year.
Time trials are very frequent events in countries with long running traditions such as the UK and USA , as it allows runners to take part without the pressure of beating opponents. These trials also offer great opportunities for beginner runners to become acquainted with similar events and more formal races. Eliofotos Eliofotou, a beginner runner of Dromea Racing said: “I only started running more this year and have already accomplished so much; running has really changed my life’. Dromea Racing Vlub urges all recreational runners to join a club as the benefits of doing so are tremendous.
Andrea Aristotelous of Dromea Racing Club mentioned that “joining a club allows you to be a part of a community that loves running, that can help you to improve, support you if you get injured and so much more”. As for the race itself, Kassahoun Jebel of Dromea Racing and (GSP) crossed the finnish line first with 26’02, while Maria Avraamidou (also of Dromea Racing and GSP), was the first woman to finish, with 36’01.
