cyprus-film-days-20081Celebrated International Cinama Event Cyprus Film Days in April

The much-anticipated Cyprus film Days international film festival will be taking place in Limassol and Nicosia from April 10-18.

Organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre, which will be hosting some of the events. Other screenings in will be held at the Pantheon Art Cinema in Nicosia.

Continuing the tradition of previous years, the festival will host of the films international critics consider to be the best and most important movies of the year.

“the main objective of the festival is the screening and promotion of independent cinema that deals with contemporary social and political issue across the globe. At  the same time, `Cyprus Film Days` seeks to bring together filmmakers from Cyprus and abroad in order to exchange ideas and discuss recent developments and trends in world cinema,” said the organisers. This year’s programme is a selective combination of films that have been distin-guished and received awards at international festivals, ground-breaking films and low budget productions considered cinematic discoveries due to their artistic and narrative approach.

“All 23 films that have been chosen this year for Cyprus Film Days undoubtedly stand out as characterised and guided by the qualities and point of view of their creator,” the organisers said. The main programme of this year’s festival comprises a total of 14 prize-winning films.

Parallel events include a 1Bloody Sunday` section which will focus on horror films. Apart from the `Bloody Sunday` film screenings, filmmakers and horror film fans are invited to attend a Master Class on the creation of special effects, prosthetics and make-up for horror films. The Master Class will be presented by brothers Giorgos and Roulis Alahouzou. On Friday, April 16 (Limassol) and Saturday , April17 (Nicosia).
