HEALTH CARE BUSINESS AND HEALTH TRAVELLING

Transforming-Health-CareLarHealth Care Conference

A conference entitled ”Health Care Business and Health Travelling” opens in Nicosia today aiming to promote health tourism and the improvement of health care services on the island.

The two-day meeting is jointly organised by the Cyprus Organisation of Standarisation(CYS) and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry(Keve).

Announcing the conference , Keve Chairman Manthos Mavrommatis stressed the need for a continuous improvement in the health care sector.

“it is imperative for not only society but also the economy of the country to upgrade public and private health services,” Mavrommaties said, noting that the promotion of health tourism to Cyprus could have a positive effect on the quality and cost of private health care available in Cyprus.

A serious problem is a euro28m dept accumulated from treating EU citizens-entitled to free medical care in Cyprus.

This is the result of the pending issue for the last two years of the accreditation of private medical centres in Cyprus. If health services are not accredited they cannot be sold aboard.

Mavrommatis called on the Health Ministry to certify medical centres as soon as possible.

Former Health Ministry Permanent Secretary and the chairman of the conference, Simeon Matsis, said the aim of the meeting was to address economic aspects, the accreditation of medical centres, the correct management of private health care centres, and to encourage investment in health care by businessmen.
