The Paphos Tourism Board predicts that the number of visitors from Iran will rise to 15,000 annually in coming years, following the Persia Travel Market Tourist Fair they attended late last month.
“Presently, 6,000 Iranian tourists come to Cyprus each year. With proper marketing, it is entirenly possible that we can increase this number,” a board spokespersons told “Ten million Iranians travel aboard every year- some twice annually. Turkey attracts approximately 1,5 million Iranian tourists every year.
Iran is less than three hours away. Charter flights will connect mid-march until the first week of April and again during June , July and August.
“What the Iranian market tends to want are a good choice of excursions, variety, shoping and flight availability. As far as Paphos is concerned , we have had a lot of positive feedback from Iranians.
“They are discovering that there is more to Cyprus than the east of the island where their flights land.”
During the three-day Tehran event, hundreds of people visited the Paphos Tourism Board stand while chiefs met leading Iranian tour operators active in promoting package tours to Cyprus.
The Cyprus government has recently indicated that it will facilities straightforward application for visas for visitors from iran.
