Some 55 km from the capital, lies the beautiful ,Kakopetria. Built on the east bank of the river Korkotis, at 660 m above sea level, the village stretches across the Korkotis valley, with the most recent part of the village on the right and the old settlement to the left.
The old Kakopetria, which has been declared a historical and archaeological monument, has imposing traditional Cypriot architecture, the two-storey houses with their wooden balconies and the narrow stone paved alleys are a true pleasure to walk in. There are a great number of sites of interest, such as the restored old flour mill, the Byzantine church of Agios Nikolas tis Stegis (St Nicholas of the Roof) and the Church of the Theotokos of the 16th century.
