Kantara is most easterly of the great Lusignan fortresses of the northern shore. At 600M above sea level its wall crown rocky crags, with the north shore way below and stretching into the distance.
The location at the eastern end of the Kyrenia Hills gave the garrison control of the Karpasia peninsula. Visitors can, in a brief panorama, survey this unique landscape in its entirety.
Most of the castle is a ruin, although the formidable outer wall is substantially intact . Entrance is gained through a ruined barbican and two towers. Steps lead on to vaulted chambers and medieval latrines. On the highest ground only a Gothic window remains.
