The heights number of civil weddings ever to be held in one place on the same day will take place in Larnaca today, Friday.
The 170 couples – made up of Israeli and Russian nationals – will tie the knot during a 6pm ceremony at Larnaca Mediaeval Square.
On their arrival at Larnaca Port from Haifa, the couples and their friends and families will be welcomed by young girls who will sprinkle the wedding parties with rose water in accordance to Cypriot tradition. Traditional `loukoumia` wedding confectionaries will also be handed out after the ceremony and local folk dances will complement the post-wedding entertainment along with top Israeli performers especially coming to Cyprus for the event.
The total number of people expected to arrive on the island for the ceremony is expected to reach 600. The mass wedding was organised by Larnaca Municipality and the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company, in cooperation with Israel-based tourist operator Natan Uretsky. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Moyseos and Chairman of the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company Dinos Lefkaritis will address the event, which has received wide media coverage in Israel.
