FameLab Cyprus 2011 is looking for the new “Pop Idol” of Science. Based on the highly successful FameLab UK model, FameLab Cyprus is a national talent competition to find the best new talent in science communication.
Hurry to sign up though because the deadline for submissions in next Friday, January 21.
Originally created by the UK’s Cheltenham Science Festival, the idea of the competition is to encourage young people with a passion for science and technology to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with the general public.
The organisers are searching for the new faces of science in Cyprus, people who are able to develop their ideas and presentation skills for a non-specialist audience.
During the qualifying round participants will be given a maximum of three minutes in which to impress the judges. The panel will be looking for exciting and engaging talks that can be understood by a general public adult audience. props are allowed but participants must be able to carry them on and off stage with them- there is no set-up time or assistance and no table to put them on. powerPoint presentations are not permitted.
The FameLab Cyprus winner chosen at the final will win an all-expenses paid trip to the UK for the Cheltenham Festival on June 8-12, where they will compete in FameLab International 2011 together with the winners of the other FameLab Competitions taking place in over 10 countries around the world.
Attractive prizes and other incentives will be provided to the finalists. Who knows? Maybe a Cypriot will be the winner at this years` Cheltenham Festival in June.
