Nicosia Visit for Merkel-Cyprus

German Chanceller Angela Merkel will be in Cyprus on Tuesday, January 11 for just over five hours to meet the President, visit Goethe Institut and walk around Nicosia’s Green Line.

It is the first ever visit by a German Chancellor and “all preparations are underway”, an embassy source said this week.

The visit has not been officially announced by the Chancellor’s office in Berlin, yet.

But the same source said Merkel will be leading a delegation arriving midday at Larnaca International Airport and her first stop will be the Presidential Palace.

After talks with President Christofias and scheduled statements to the press there will be a working luncheon with delegations from both sides.

Merkel will then visit the Geothe Institut which is situated right next to the Ledra Palace, and will then go to Ledra Street for  a guided tour by Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou.
