An event entitled “Child safety on the Internet” was organised by PwC Cyprus on the occasion of the Safer Internet Day which this year is celebrated from 8 until 12 February.
The Safer Internet Day is organised the Pan-European Network of Awareness Centres, Insafe, with the aim to promote the safe and responsible use of Internet and mobile devices by children and young people.
This year’s celebrations have the slogan “The Internet is not just a game. Protect yourself. Respect the lives of others.”
The events organised in the context of PwC Corporate Social Responsibility activities, on 8 February 2011 in Nicosia and Limassol to acquaint the parents with the safe use of the Internet, through presentations and a live debate.
Mr Markos Nikolettis and Mr George Karkas, representatives of the Department of Compacting Cyber Crime attended the events in Nicosia and Limassol promoting safe internet usage.
Mr Markos Nikolettis, Officer responsible for Compacting Cyber Crime, who was the main speaker at the event held in Nicosia, shared his knowledge and experience with the members of the organisation.
In his speech, Mr Nikolettis stressed the importance of knowledge and effective communication with children in preventing and dealing with the risks associated with the use of the Internet.
