World belongs to women for a day-Northern Cyprus
“Today is your day” a packed room of Turkish Cypriot women were told in a party celebrating International Women’s Day on Sunday.
An afternoon of eating drinking and live music was enjoyed by 210 guests at Hotel Sempati in Lapta , to mark the global celebration of women that officially took place on Tuesday.
“We also had a Bingo , where prize winners got red flowers,” said hotel owner Samiye kilim.
A rich menu of meze and drinks were served to the women, while yheir children danced to the music of the band. İnternational Women’s Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day, is marked all over the world to show respect and appreciation towards women and their economic, political and social achievements.
Meanwhile, Turkcell and the Foundation for Prevention of Social Risks have teamed up to launch a women’s shelter in North Cyprus. The anniversary of World Women’s Day.
The project, First Steps For A Women’s Shelter, was launched at a press conference in Nicosia(Lefkosa) Merit Hotel.
Labour and Social Security Minister Turkay Tokel, Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun and Democrat Party leader Serdar Denktas attended, along with Turkcell general manager Daghan Fellahoglu, Hatice Duzgun, of the Patriotic Women’s Union, and Derya Atamer, of the Foundation for Prevention of Social Risks all attended.
