The Cyprus countryside is endowed with inexhausly revealed to the visitor, it is traditional villages, enhance and complement  a wonderful natural environment, with their local character , traditional architecture and village planning .

Such places are conducive to a harmonious coexistence of man with nature, coexistence sought by more and more visitors on their holidays

Within such an environment the visitors has the benefit of the daily hands-on  experience of the rich traditions of village people: the simple, serene rhythms of rural life, folk customs, daily activities, and the  authentic tastes of traditional cuisine; all  filtered through the sense of genuine hospitality.

The Cyprus tourism organisation ,having  considered this new, alternative way to holidaymaking, has set in motion a programme of restoration of traditional houses and enhancernent of the traditional element in Cyprus villages, within the framework of the philosophy of agrotourism. The need for a better and more organised  co-ordination ofagrotourism led to the establishment of the Cyprus Agrotourism company , a body dealing exclusively with holidays in the Cyprus countryside. Today, agrotourism is an autonomous, vibrant part of Cyprus tourism hosted in traditional lodgings of historical value throughout Cyprus, ready to offer a new alternative holiday ideal.

These restored lodgings create a warm atmosphere that will be engraved deep in your memory. At the same time , you will enjoy the comfort of a household that will soon feel like home . from then on await a handful  of pleasant surprises nature has in store for you: millions of different scents, images of unparalleled beauty, walks down nature trails, visits to historical monasteries and archaeological sites, the real life of the country.

Suffice to say, agrotourism is not something you describe but something you experience.

portPORTS

Cyprus is a natural port of call for ships crusing the Mediterranean , especially the Eastern, as well as a gateway to a wealth of archaeologocial treasures and various other unique attractions.

Seasonally, locally based cruise lines help locals and tourists alike get a first hand perspective of the splendours of Egypt , Israel , Lebanon, Syria and of course the Greek islands. Many international cruise lines use Cyprus as a major port of call on their European and Mediterranean itineraries.

The legal ports of entry into the Republic of Cyprus  are the airports of Larnaca  and Paphos and the ports of Larnaca, Lemesos(Limassol), Latsi and paphos, which are situated in the area under the effective control of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus.

UN SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN Ki-MOON

UN SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN Ki-MOONBan: Show World After All This Time” Peace Possible”

UN Secretary-General Ban KI-moon says that the time for a Cyprus solution is now.

Following his visit to the Lokmaci-Ledra Street crossing earlier this month and his meetings with the leaders in Cyprus, Mr ban said he had been struck by the support for a settlement.

He said:” I wanted to see for myself the divide that for too long had kept Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots apart. As I walked the street, people from both communities crowded around and began chanting,  Solution now! Solution now!”

“As an Korean, I know only too well the pain of a land divided. I also know how difficult reconciliation can be. That is why I went to Cyprus-to show my personal support for the efforts to reunify the island, and to push for further progress.

“Cyprus is at a critical juncture. The Greek Cypriot leader, Demetris Christofias, and his Turkish Cypriot counterpart, Mehmet Ali Talat are working hard to reach an agreement. But it will elude them without a further concerted push.”

Mr Ban added that Mr Talat and Mr Christofias had made progress on crucial issues such as governance and power-sharing. He added that Greece and Turkey both supported the current talks and were willing to be helpful in finding a solution.

He concluded:”Courage and conviction will be required of leaders to do what they know to be right.

Any agreement will face a popular referendum within both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. Yet it is clear that a solution to the Cyprus problem would be overwhelmingly in the interests of the island’s people, North and South.

“a settlement would also send a message to the world that disputes as longstanding and complex as that in Cyprus can be resolved peacefully.

“That is why, despite all the obstacles, the negotiators must persevere along the road to peace. The people’s call on Ledra Street must be heard. For Cyprus , it is time for a solution now”.
