Cyprus Airways sees significantly more losses

Posted under Cyprus News by admin on Tuesday 4 January 2011 at 2:49 pm

Cyprus Airways, said yesterday financial results for 2010 are expected “to be significantly more loss-making” than for 2009.

While the company increased passenger number, revenue fell amid greater competition, the Nicosia-based airline said in a filing to the Cyprus Stock Exchange.

The company’s performance in 2010 was also hurt by the  financial crisis in Greece –Cyprus routes, the weakening of the euro, the volcano in Iceland, which closed much of northern Europe’s airspace , according to the statement.

Cyprus Airways management and staff must agree to a realistic restructuring plan for the airline to survive,  Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis said last month. The airline may make a loss of  euro30m this year compared with a loss of euro3.3m last year.

Town Tourism board targets Lebanese Visitors

The Paphos Board of Tourism is  attempting to expand its markets by homing in on Lebanese visitors.

A delegation from the local tourism board recently returned from a workshop organised by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation in Beirut for 45 Lebanese tour operators.

During the event, it became clear that the tourist authorities must intensify their efforts to promote Paphos District to their counterparts in Lebanon.

In coming months, the board will organise press trips for Lebanese journalists and distribute information and promotional material on Paphos in Lebanon.

The Paphos Tourism Board thinks that there is positive potential for the local tourism sector from Lebanon due to the country’s close proximity and good air connections and a rise in interest for wedding holidays, weekend breaks and special interest tourism.

More Indian Tourists to Cyprus

Posted under Guide by admin on Tuesday 4 January 2011 at 10:36 am

The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) is intensifying efforts to attract more tourists from India, particularly for incentives travel. In an announcement this week, the organisation said it had presented prospects and characteristics of the Indian market to local tourism players. The large number of business people who attended the presentation proved once again the interest of hoteliers and destination management companies to expand their operations to new emerging markets. The main features of the Indian market were analysed, along with the constant enhancement of the country’s middle class, per capita income, and outgoing traffic to competitive neighbouring destinations and elsewhere.. The Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) is currently successfully implementing a targeted incentives scheme to attracting destination management companies from the Indian market, It hopes that with a thorough knowledge of the Indian market, cooperation with the Cyprus tourism industry and the presence of its office in the wider region, it will boost arrivals from the Indian market, especially for incentives travel
