CAR DRIVING IN CYPRUS
Driving in Cyprus is most advisable as regular transport service is not available to all remote areas where many places of interest are to be found.
Fairly good surfaced roads complying with international traffic requirements link the towns and the various villages.
Four lane motorways connect the capital, Lefkosia(Nicosia) with the coastal towns of Lemesos, Larnaka, Pafos, Agia Napa.
Minor roads and forest roads are still largely unsurfaced but in good to fair condition .Appropriate care should be taken when using these roads, especially during wet weather.
Visitors wishing to bring their car to Cyprus can do so , for a period up to 3 month provided the car has a valid registration licence of it is country of origin. The period may be extended accordingly, provided the person is considered a visitor by the Department of Customs &Excise.
HANDS FREE DURING IS MANDATORY
During driving, the driver should take all necessary measures, so that his/her hands are free at all times in order to have full control of the vehicle. Therefore the use of a mobile phone is strictly prohibited.

Driving in Northern Cyprus is the most advisable from of transport as there are infrequent bus services to many of the more remote areas of the country, and bus services cease to operate after 5 PM. Road surfaces between major towns and villages are reasonably good, but some of mountain and village roads are still unsurfaced, so care should be taken especially in wet weather. Visitors wishing to bring their own car from aboard may do so for a period of up to 3 months provided the vehicle has a valid registration license from it is country of origin. Visitors in Cyprus can drive using a valid international driving license or a valid aboard will need to purchase insurance upon entry into Northern Cyprus. Most petrol stations are open from 7 am and close around 8 pm. Some however ,stay open later and there is an increasing number of stations which operate 24 hours a day. Municipal parking is available in all major towns.
