A new Citizes Service Centre opened its doors to the public in Paphos this week.
The centre is acting as a one-stop-shop for a wide range of public services normally dealt with by several satellite offices representing governmental ministries.
“The need to provide more efficient and effective high-quality services to the public is nowadays becoming more crucial in all modern states,” a Finance Ministry spokesperson said of the centre.
“As a step towards this direction, a plan has been drawn up for establishing Citizens’ Services Centres, or One-stop-shops as they are known, all over Cyprus with the aim to provide multiple services from one point of contact. The ultimate goal is to have a service which does not engage its citizens in long-winded, time-consuming and frustrating procedures.”
Citizens can take advantage of 64 services from six different governmental departments.
Amongst other services, citizens can apply for EU Health Cards, Cypriot Pasport renewal, Child Benefit and election registration.
Some services have not fully transferred from satellite offices so visitors are advised to check availability of assistance prior to an appointment. For example, foreign driving licences still have to be exchanged for Cypriot permits at the Road Transport office in Mesoyi.
The Paphos centre is the latest in one stop premises to be established by the government. Centres exist in all other districts and Polis Chrysochous.
“All of our staff were trained at the centre in Limassol prior to starting work here,” Paphos supervisor, Yiannis Constantintou said.
“We opened our doors unofficially last week. We were already very busy before the official opening on Monday.”
On the centre’s first official day of operation, applications for Health Cards topped the list of queries at 108. Social insurance queries were next highest followed by applications for ID cards, passports and birth certificates and Road Transport inquiries.
The centre is located at 62, Elefterios Venizelos Ave close to the Kykkos High School. Free parking for 42 cars is available on the opposite side of the road. Opening hours are 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. A full recerded list of services in Greek and English is available by phoning 26 822 400
