Signs of Recovery From the Finnish Tourist Market-Cyprus

Paphos tourism chief’s say that there are optimistic  signs from the Finnish tourist market for this year’s summer season following a visit to Helsinki.

The Paphos Tourism Board promoted the district to tour operators at the annual Matka Tourism Fair held in the Finnish capital.

“Already bookings for the summer are at a better level than the corresponding period last year,” a spokesperson said. “As a holiday resort, Paphos is especially interesting for Finnish golfers, sports teams, elderly visitors, long-term guests and there is a lot of potential for family packages.”

The board explained that Finnish visitors prefer to come off-season, a trend that it hopes to bank on.

“As of April until November there will be several flights a week between Paphos and Helsinki and regional Finnish airports. We are hoping for a good season which will enable us to extend the service through November and December at least.”

In 2010 more than 33.000 Finish people visited Cyprus with Paphos taking about 30% of the market.

Meanwhile, a new Paphos to Thessaloniki service is scheduled to launch in March.

The weekly service will run every Friday and will be run jointly by the Kavaliero Viajes travel agency and Greek airline Astra Airlines.

A significant volume of passengers travel from Paphos to Thessaloniki.

Budget airline Blue Air cut its Paphos to Thessaloniki service last year which means travellers now have to fly from Larnaca.

The Tourism board says it is aiming to maintain a year round flight programme to the Greek city.
