Go along to Musica Live II ! in Nicosia Friday to hear more than 150 students and professional musicians perform a variety of well-known pieces for choir, band and orchestra.
The event will take place at Strovolos Municipal Theatre at 7.30pm and entrance is free.
The participating schools are American Academy-Nicosia , American International School, Falcon School, the Junior School, Grammar School, Kykkos B Lyceum, Nicosia Regional Orchestra, The Senior School, the String Orchestra of the European Conservatoire and Symphonic Band of Strovlos Municipality –European University Cyprus.
According to the organisers, the idea for Musica Live ! came about as a result of a conversation over coffee between four music teachers, Yiannis Miralis, Kate Jarrold, Koullis Limniotis and Guy Creen.
“Wouldn’t it be a great idea if my students had a chance to perform with your students…?” Following further discussion, progress towards its realisation has proven to be unstoppable.
The concept is that by combining the smaller individual school orchestras, bands and choirs, pupils will have the opportunity to sing and play in much larger ensembles and alongside musicians of a higher technical level . such a unique experience helps build confidence, enhance creativity and improve self-esteem and interpersonal skills. Furthermore, it provides pupils with the opportunity to meet musicians of various ages and abilities, to make new friends and, of course, produce a memorable and entertaining evening of educational and musical value.
Working toward this end, over the previous months, music has been arranged, parts have been written, and a vast amount of preparation has taken place. Schools and homes have heard many hours of individual practice and group rehearsals as everyone prepares for the final concert.
The ultimate preparation though, will take place during one long weekend of practising and rehearsing together with all the participants.
Due to space limitations, the first Musica Live ! in March 2010 started with only a limited number of pupils and schools.
This year the number of students taking part has increased, as the concert will take place on a much bigger stage . new schools have been invited, and even more friends and colleagues will participate and more support has been provided towards the final concert which will take place a Strovolos Municipal Theatre on Friday, February 18, at 7.30pm. it is a fun and free concert for all the family.
Musica Live II ! is supported by Strovolos Municipality and European University of Cyprus
